Follow The Directions

01

Step

Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan or small pot over medium heat. (1 minute)

02

Step

Stir in the Korean chile powder (gochugaru) and ground beef. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink. (5-7 minutes)

03

Step

Stir in the Korean soybean paste (doenjang), ensuring it coats the beef evenly. (1 minute)

04

Step

Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. (3-5 minutes)

05

Step

Gently drop the sliced soft tofu into the simmering soup. Continue cooking until the tofu is heated through, being careful not to break it up too much. (2-3 minutes)

06

Step

Remove the saucepan from the heat. Quickly crack the egg into the soup, stirring gently to partially break the yolk and distribute it throughout the stew. (1 minute)

07

Step

Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onion before serving. Serve immediately and enjoy! (1 minute)

For a spicier stew, add more Korean chile powder to taste.
Feel free to add other ingredients such as sliced mushrooms, kimchi, or seafood (shrimp, clams, or mussels) for a heartier stew.
Adjust the amount of water to achieve your desired consistency.
Serve with a bowl of steamed rice and a selection of Korean side dishes (banchan) for a complete and authentic meal.
For a vegetarian option, omit the ground beef and add sliced mushrooms or other vegetables of your choice.
