For a richer flavor, try browning the ground beef with a tablespoon of bacon grease. Feel free to add other vegetables, such as carrots, zucchini, or mushrooms. If you prefer a thicker stew, you can mash some of the potatoes against the side of the pot during the last 15 minutes of cooking. This stew can easily be made in a slow cooker. Simply brown the ground beef and then transfer all ingredients to the slow cooker. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
