Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Generously spray a 9x13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Lightly butter one side of each bread slice. Top each slice with 2 slices of deli ham and 1 slice of Swiss cheese, creating open-faced sandwiches. Arrange these sandwiches in the prepared casserole dish, overlapping slightly to maximize space. (10 minutes)

03

Step

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, salt, and pepper until well combined. Pour this luscious egg mixture evenly over the open-faced sandwiches in the casserole dish. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Allow the milk mixture to soak into the bread for at least 15 minutes, or ideally, refrigerate overnight for maximum flavor infusion. (15+ minutes)

05

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the eggs are set and the casserole is golden brown and cooked through, approximately 20 minutes. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean. (20 minutes)

Feel free to experiment with different types of bread, cheeses, and meats to customize this casserole to your liking. Gruyere or cheddar cheese, and turkey or roast beef are excellent alternatives.
For a richer flavor, use heavy cream instead of milk in the egg mixture.
If preparing the casserole ahead of time, cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Add an extra 5-10 minutes to the baking time if baking directly from the refrigerator.

I accidentally used sweetened almond milk, and it still turned out great! Maybe a little sweeter, but not bad at all.
