In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, celery, and garlic and sauté until softened, about 8-10 minutes.

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and clams (with their liquid). Season with bay leaves, red pepper flakes, oregano, salt, and pepper.

Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour, or until the sauce has thickened and deepened in color.

Stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil just before serving. This adds a lovely richness and shine to the sauce.

Serve this dish over rice or angel hair pasta. A sprinkle of crumbled feta cheese and a side of crusty bread for soaking up the delicious sauce is highly recommended.
For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a splash of dry white wine to the sauce along with the tomatoes.
Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your preferred level of spiciness.
Fresh oregano can be used, use about 1 tablespoon chopped, added near the end of cooking
