Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare an 8-count mini loaf pan by lightly coating it with cooking spray. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, unsweetened applesauce, egg, and vanilla extract. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix until well combined. Gently fold in the mashed bananas, chopped walnuts, and semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the mixture. (10 minutes)

03

Step

In the same bowl, add the whole wheat flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon, and sea salt. Stir until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated and the batter is smooth. Be careful not to overmix. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared mini loaf pan, filling each cavity about three-quarters full. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick or fork inserted into the center of a loaf comes out clean. (30 minutes)

06

Step

Remove the mini loaves from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. (30 minutes)

For a richer flavor, consider browning the butter before adding it to the wet ingredients.
Feel free to substitute other nuts, such as pecans or almonds, for the walnuts.
To enhance the chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
These mini loaves can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.

I made these with my kids, and they had so much fun helping to mash the bananas and add the chocolate chips.

I substituted coconut oil for the applesauce, and they turned out wonderfully moist.

I added a streusel topping with oats and brown sugar - it made them even more irresistible!
