For a smoother liqueur, use superfine brown sugar, which dissolves more easily. Experiment with different types of rum to find your preferred flavor profile. Aged or spiced rums can add extra complexity. If you don't have a vanilla bean, you can substitute 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, but the flavor will be less intense. Add it after the mixture has cooled. Make sure the bottle and lid are very clean to prevent contamination during the aging process.

Jun 22, 2025Easy to follow instructions. I did find that stirring the sugar into the hot espresso took a bit longer than 5 minutes to fully dissolve.

Jun 15, 2025This recipe is fantastic! The homemade version is so much better than store-bought. I let it sit for 6 weeks, and the vanilla flavor really came through.
