Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan or Dutch oven, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, sugar, butter, red pepper flakes, and hot sauce. (5 minutes)

02

Step
5 mins

Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently until the butter is completely melted and the sugar has dissolved. (5 minutes)

03

Step
30 mins

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Continue to simmer, uncovered, for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly and the flavors have melded together. (30 minutes)

04

Step
10 mins

Remove from heat and let cool slightly before using. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools. (10 minutes)

For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to blend the sauce after simmering.
Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes and hot sauce to your preferred level of spiciness.
This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
For longer storage, the sauce can be canned using a pressure canner, following proper canning procedures.

Definitely adjust the heat to your liking. I used half the red pepper flakes and it was still pretty spicy!
