Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

Cut each Hawaiian roll into approximately 8 cubes. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Spread bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes, or until lightly toasted. (10 minutes)

04

Step

In a lightly greased 1 1/2-quart baking dish, layer the toasted bread cubes. Sprinkle evenly with 1/4 cup Swiss cheese, 1/4 cup Cheddar cheese, half of the diced bacon, and half of the sliced green onions. Gently shake the pan to distribute the toppings throughout the bread. (5 minutes)

05

Step

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, and milk. Season generously with salt and pepper. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure the bread is submerged. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Sprinkle the remaining Swiss cheese, Cheddar cheese, bacon, green onions, and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the strata. (2 minutes)

07

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes, or until the strata is puffed and golden brown, and the center is set. Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving. (35 minutes)

For a savory twist, substitute the bacon with cooked sausage or ham.
Experiment with different cheese combinations like Gruyere, Monterey Jack, or Pepper Jack.
Add sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach for a boost of flavor and nutrients.
For a richer flavor, use whole milk or heavy cream instead of skim milk.
The strata can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated overnight. Add an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking directly from the refrigerator.
