Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

Unroll the crescent dough on a clean surface. Firmly pinch or press along the perforated lines between the triangles to create four rectangular pieces. Then, cut each rectangle lengthwise to form eight long, narrow strips. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Carefully make a 2-inch slice through the center of one end of a hot dog. Create two more 2-inch slices on either side of that initial slice, ensuring the 'legs' are roughly the same thickness. Repeat this process on the opposite end of the hot dog to create spider legs. Repeat for the remaining hot dogs. (10 minutes)

04

Step

Wrap a crescent roll strip around the center of each hot dog, leaving the sliced 'legs' exposed. Arrange the spider dogs on an ungreased baking sheet. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the crescent rolls are beautifully golden brown, approximately 11 minutes. (11 minutes)

06

Step

Use a chopstick or toothpick to carefully dot small 'eyes' onto each spider using ketchup. Serve immediately with additional ketchup for dipping. (5 minutes)

For extra flavor, brush the crescent rolls with a melted garlic butter before baking.
Get creative with the 'eyes'! Use mustard or even small dots of black olive for a spookier look.
To prevent the crescent rolls from getting too brown, tent the baking sheet with foil during the last few minutes of baking.

I found it helpful to partially bake the hot dogs before adding the crescent roll to prevent them from splitting.

I added a sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning to the crescent rolls before baking for a little extra flavor and texture. It was a hit!
