Follow The Directions

01

Step

Squeeze lemon juice over the tilapia fillet; season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. (1 minute)

02

Step

Heat olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Melt 1/2 teaspoon of butter in the hot oil. Add chopped red onion and minced garlic; cook and stir until the onion softens and becomes translucent. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Reduce heat to medium-low. Push the onion mixture to the sides of the skillet, creating space in the center. Melt the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of butter in the newly cleared space. Place the tilapia fillet in the center of the skillet and cover it with the onion mixture. Cover the skillet and cook the tilapia until it starts to turn golden. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Push the onion mixture to the sides of the skillet once again and carefully flip the tilapia. Cover and cook until the second side is golden and the fish flakes easily with a fork, indicating it's cooked through. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Remove the skillet from heat. Top the tilapia with grated Parmesan cheese, cover, and let stand until the cheese is melted and slightly bubbly. (2-3 minutes)

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the onion mixture while cooking.
Serve immediately with a side of your favorite greens or a simple salad for a complete and satisfying meal.
Ensure the tilapia fillet is patted completely dry before cooking to help it develop a nice sear.
Feel free to substitute other flaky white fish fillets like cod or snapper.
