Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

In a slow cooker (6-quart or larger), combine the ketchup, beer, diced onion, dark brown sugar, prepared mustard, BBQ seasoning, distilled white vinegar, black pepper, and garlic powder. (5 minutes)

02

Step
2 mins

Stir the mixture well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed. (2 minutes)

03

Step
12 hrs

Cover the slow cooker and set it to the LOW setting. Simmer for 12 hours, or overnight, allowing the flavors to meld and deepen. (12 hours)

04

Step
3 mins

After the initial simmering period, stir the sauce thoroughly to reincorporate any settled solids. (3 minutes)

05

Step
2 hrs

Continue to simmer, uncovered, on LOW for an additional 2-4 hours to allow the sauce to thicken to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally. (2-4 hours)

06

Step
15 mins

Once the sauce has reached your desired thickness, remove from heat and let cool slightly before transferring to airtight containers. (15 minutes)

For a smokier flavor, add 1-2 teaspoons of liquid smoke during the initial mixing stage.
Adjust the amount of brown sugar to your desired level of sweetness.
This sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or frozen for longer storage.
For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to blend the sauce after cooking.

So easy to make and tastes way better than store-bought. I added a pinch of cayenne pepper for a little kick.

I was a little hesitant about the beer, but it really makes the sauce! My family loved it on ribs.

This sauce is amazing! I used a local craft stout and it added such a rich depth of flavor.

The slow cooker does all the work! I put it on before bed and woke up to the most incredible smell.
