Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a blender, combine the Asian pear, sherry, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, hoisin sauce, chile paste, and sesame oil. Blend until completely smooth, about 4 minutes.

02

Step

Place the short ribs in a 9x13-inch baking dish. Pour the marinade over the ribs, ensuring they are evenly coated. Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 8 hours, or preferably overnight.

03

Step

Remove the short ribs from the marinade and pat them dry with paper towels. This step is crucial for achieving a beautiful sear on the grill.

04

Step

Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat (about 375-450°F or 190-230°C). Lightly oil the grill grate to prevent sticking.

05

Step

Grill the short ribs for approximately 4 minutes per side, or until they are firm to the touch, slightly pink in the center, and have developed a nice char. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part should read 140°F (60°C) for medium-rare.

06

Step

Garnish with chopped green onion before serving.

For best results, marinate the ribs overnight to allow the flavors to fully penetrate the meat.
Flanken-style short ribs are thinly sliced across the bone, making them ideal for quick grilling.
If you don't have an outdoor grill, you can also broil the ribs in the oven. Place them on a baking sheet and broil for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
Adjust the amount of chile paste to your preferred level of spiciness.
