Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Wontons: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, minced green onions, beaten egg, hot sauce, and a generous pinch of ground black pepper. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. (Prep time: 30 minutes)

02

Step

Shape the Wontons: Lay out a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Place a heaping teaspoon of the pork mixture in the center. Lightly moisten the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half, bringing the bottom point to meet the top point, forming a triangle. Press firmly along the edges to seal. Bring the two outer points of the triangle inwards towards the center and pinch them together to secure. Repeat this process until all the wontons are formed. (Prep time: 45 minutes)

03

Step

Simmer the Soup: Pour the chicken broth into a large pot and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat slightly and add the grated fresh ginger. Gently drop the prepared wontons into the simmering broth. Cook until the wontons float to the surface and the pork filling is cooked through, approximately 6 minutes. (Cook time: 6 minutes)

04

Step

Serve: Ladle the hot wonton soup into individual bowls. Garnish each serving with freshly sliced green onions and a dash of soy sauce to taste. Serve immediately and enjoy!

For a richer broth, consider using homemade chicken stock or adding a touch of sesame oil.
Feel free to customize the filling with ingredients like finely chopped water chestnuts or shiitake mushrooms for added texture and flavor.
Wontons can be made ahead of time and frozen. Freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet before transferring them to a freezer bag for longer storage. Add them directly to the boiling broth when ready to cook, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
