Follow The Directions

01

Step

Place the diced tomatoes in a fine-mesh strainer set over a bowl. Allow them to drain for 15 minutes to remove excess liquid. This step prevents a watery salsa.

02

Step

In a large, non-reactive bowl (glass or stainless steel), combine the drained tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño, garlic, and serrano pepper. Pour the lime juice over the mixture.

03

Step

Gently stir in the chopped cilantro, mint, salt, oregano, cayenne pepper, and sugar (if using).

04

Step

Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld. Chilling the salsa enhances its taste and texture.

05

Step

Before serving, taste the salsa and adjust the seasoning as needed. Add more salt, lime juice, or peppers to your preference. Serve immediately with your favorite tortilla chips, tacos, or grilled dishes.

For a milder salsa, remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapeño and serrano peppers. For a spicier salsa, leave the seeds in or add more peppers to taste.
If you don't have fresh mint, you can omit it or substitute it with another herb like parsley. However, the mint adds a unique and refreshing flavor to the salsa.
This salsa is best when made fresh. It can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but the flavors may diminish over time.
Consider using a food processor for finely dicing the ingredients. Pulse until you reach desired consistency.
