For a slightly sweeter coleslaw, increase the sugar to 1 ¼ cups. If you prefer a milder onion flavor, soak the diced onion in cold water for 10 minutes, then drain well before adding to the cabbage. The coleslaw is best served within 24 hours of making it. The cabbage will continue to soften over time.
