Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a medium skillet over medium heat, warm olive oil. Add chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté until softened and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Set aside.

02

Step

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until almost browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain off any excess grease. Add the caramelized onions and garlic to the ground beef and cook for another 3 minutes, stirring to combine.

03

Step

In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, combine crushed tomato sauce and diced stewed tomatoes. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer the sauce for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

04

Step

Stir in pepperoni slices, ground beef mixture, and diced green bell pepper into the sauce. Cover the pot and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

05

Step

Stir in chopped mushrooms, garlic salt, sea salt, ground black pepper, onion powder, dried oregano, and Italian seasoning. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld, stirring occasionally. Serve hot over your favorite pasta or use in lasagna.

For a sweeter sauce, add a teaspoon of sugar during the last 10 minutes of simmering.
To deepen the flavor, add a tablespoon of tomato paste along with the crushed tomatoes.
For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
This sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
Consider adding a splash of red wine while simmering for an even more complex flavor profile.
