Assemble and Marinate (15 minutes preparation + at least 1 hour chilling, preferably overnight): Transfer the drained green beans to a 2-quart casserole dish. Spread the chopped onions evenly over the green beans, followed by a layer of crispy bacon strips. Sprinkle the blanched slivered almonds generously over the top. In the same skillet, heat the reserved bacon drippings over medium heat. Stir in the apple cider vinegar and white sugar, heating just until the sugar is completely dissolved. Drizzle this tangy mixture evenly over everything in the casserole dish. Cover the dish tightly and chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour, but preferably overnight for the best flavor infusion.
