Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and olive oil. Add thinly sliced onions and granulated garlic. Cook until the onions are softened and translucent, approximately 5 minutes.

02

Step

Prepare the Patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions. Gently shape each portion into a patty. Season each patty with salt and hamburger seasoning.

03

Step

Smash and Sear: Heat a large skillet or flat-top griddle over medium-high heat for a few minutes until hot. Place the patties onto the hot surface and immediately smash them thin using a spatula or bacon press. Hold the patties down firmly for about 30 seconds to ensure good contact and searing. Cover each patty generously with the cooked onions. Cook for 2 minutes, allowing the onions to meld with the beef.

04

Step

Flip and Press: Carefully flip the burgers, scraping up any browned bits from the skillet. Press down on the flipped patties to ensure the onions are well-integrated into the meat.

05

Step

Sauté Mushrooms: In the skillet previously used for the onions, add sliced portobello mushrooms. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

06

Step

Cheese and Finish: Season the patties with ground black pepper. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of each patty. Continue cooking until the burgers reach your desired level of doneness, about 2 to 4 minutes more. The cheese should be melted and bubbly.

07

Step

Assemble and Serve: Top each cheeseburger with the sautéed mushrooms and any remaining cooked onions. Serve immediately on hamburger buns.

For the best flavor, use a cast iron skillet or flat-top griddle. The high heat and even distribution will create a beautiful sear and crispy edges.
Don't overcrowd the skillet. If necessary, cook the burgers in batches to maintain the heat and ensure proper browning.
Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese, such as cheddar or provolone.
Serve immediately to enjoy the burgers at their peak of juiciness and flavor.
