For an extra layer of flavor, toast the walnuts before chopping.

Feel free to substitute pecans or other nuts for the walnuts.
If you don't have spice cake mix, you can use yellow cake mix and add an extra teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice to the topping.
