For a tangier flavor, add a tablespoon of Dijon mustard to the dressing. If you prefer a sweeter salad, increase the sugar to 1 teaspoon. Feel free to adjust the amount of mayonnaise to your liking. Some people prefer a drier salad. This salad is best made a few hours ahead of time to allow the flavors to develop. If you don't have cornichons, you can use regular dill pickles, finely chopped.
