Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 200 degrees F (95 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion, stirring occasionally, until beef is browned and crumbly, about 10 minutes. Drain off any excess grease. (10 minutes)

03

Step

Stir in ranch-style beans, diced tomatoes, diced tomatoes with green chiles, and chili seasoning. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer until the mixture has thickened, about 10 minutes. Keep warm while preparing the fry bread. (20 minutes)

04

Step

In a mixing bowl, combine self-rising flour and buttermilk. The dough will be quite sticky. On a well-floured surface, scoop about ¼ cup of dough and gently pat into a 5-inch circle. Repeat with the remaining dough. (15 minutes)

05

Step

Heat vegetable oil in a heavy skillet or deep fryer to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). (10 minutes)

06

Step

Carefully place one dough circle into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side. The fry bread will puff up as it cooks. Drain on paper towels and place on a baking sheet. Transfer to the preheated oven to keep warm while frying the remaining dough pieces. (25 minutes)

07

Step

Top each piece of fried bread with the warm ground beef mixture and your favorite taco toppings. Serve immediately and enjoy!

For a spicier chili, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of your favorite hot sauce to the ground beef mixture.
If you don't have buttermilk on hand, you can substitute with regular milk mixed with a tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar.
Feel free to customize your toppings! Shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, shredded cheese, black olives, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa are all great options.
For easier handling, consider using a non-stick skillet for frying the bread.
Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying the bread, or it will absorb too much oil and become greasy.
