For a richer flavor, brown the meatballs in a little olive oil before adding them to the soup. Add a bay leaf to the soup while simmering for extra depth of flavor; remember to remove it before serving. Feel free to add other vegetables such as zucchini, spinach, or diced bell peppers. If you don't have beef bouillon, chicken or vegetable bouillon can be substituted. To make this soup even heartier, consider adding a can of drained and rinsed cannellini beans along with the pasta.
