For a sweeter salad, increase the sugar to 1/3 cup. Apple cider vinegar can be substituted for white vinegar for a slightly milder flavor. If you don't have green bell pepper, red or yellow bell pepper can be used instead. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade for a touch of heat. This salad can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
