Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large Dutch oven set over medium heat, place the chicken pieces. Cook until browned on all sides, approximately 10 minutes. Drain off any rendered fat and discard.

02

Step

In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, water, minced garlic, sesame oil, and sesame seeds. Gradually add sugar to taste, ensuring it dissolves completely. Remember, you can always add more sweetness, but it's difficult to remove it. Gently fold in the quartered potatoes, diagonally sliced carrots, and sliced onion. Season generously with ground black pepper.

03

Step

Carefully pour the vegetable mixture into the Dutch oven, ensuring the vegetables cover the chicken pieces. Cover the Dutch oven with a lid and bring the mixture to a boil, which should take around 5 minutes. Stir the contents gently, then reduce the heat to medium for another 5 minutes. Finally, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the dish simmer for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

04

Step

Serve the succulent chicken and tender vegetables over a bed of hot, freshly cooked rice. Garnish with extra sesame seeds, if desired, for added visual appeal and nutty flavor.

For a richer flavor, marinate the chicken in the soy sauce mixture for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
Adjust the amount of sugar to suit your personal preference. Some prefer a sweeter glaze, while others enjoy a more savory flavor.
Feel free to add other vegetables, such as bell peppers or mushrooms, to customize the dish to your liking.
If you don't have a Dutch oven, a large, heavy-bottomed pot will work just as well.
