Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Pecan Praline Base: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and toasted pecans. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is well combined. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Spread the pecan mixture evenly over the bottom of the baked pie crust. Bake in a preheated oven at 450°F (232°C) for 5 minutes, or until the praline is bubbly and fragrant. Remove from oven and let cool completely. (15 minutes cooling)

03

Step

Prepare the Vanilla Pudding Filling: In a large bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and milk according to the package directions for pie filling. Let stand for 5 minutes to thicken slightly, stirring occasionally. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Reserve 1 cup of the prepared vanilla pudding in a separate bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming, and chill in the refrigerator. (15 minutes)

05

Step

Pour the remaining pudding into the cooled pie crust over the praline base. Spread evenly and chill in the refrigerator until set. (2 hours chilling)

06

Step

Assemble the Pie: Gently fold 1/3 cup of the thawed whipped topping into the reserved 1 cup of chilled vanilla pudding. (3 minutes)

07

Step

Spread this pudding-whipped topping mixture evenly over the set pudding layer in the pie crust. (2 minutes)

08

Step

Garnish with the remaining whipped topping and additional chopped pecans, if desired. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. (30 minutes)

For the best flavor, use high-quality butter and freshly toasted pecans.
To toast pecans, spread them on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until fragrant and lightly browned. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
If you don't have time to bake the praline base, you can skip that step and simply spread the melted pecan mixture into the crust. However, baking it enhances the flavor and texture.
For a richer flavor, use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk in the pudding.

I added a sprinkle of sea salt to the praline layer for a salty-sweet kick. Highly recommend!
