For an extra touch, sprinkle the tops of the muffins with coarse sugar before baking. If you don't have fresh strawberries, frozen strawberries can be used. Thaw them completely and drain well before chopping and macerating. To prevent the strawberries from sinking to the bottom of the muffins, toss them lightly with a tablespoon of flour before folding them into the batter.
