For best results, use gel food coloring, as it's more concentrated and won't alter the consistency of the batter as much as liquid food coloring. Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature for even mixing. To prevent the cake layers from sticking, line the bottom of the cake pans with parchment paper rounds. If you don't have six cake pans, you can bake the layers in batches, but ensure the batter doesn't sit out for too long.
