Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a Bundt pan or angel food cake pan. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a small bowl, combine poppy seeds and buttermilk. Let soak for 15 minutes to allow the poppy seeds to plump up. (15 minutes)

03

Step

In a separate bowl, whip egg whites until medium peaks form. Set aside. (5 minutes)

04

Step

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks one at a time, mixing well after each addition. (7 minutes)

05

Step

In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, folding gently until just combined. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Stir in the poppy seed mixture and vanilla extract. Gently fold in the whipped egg whites until just incorporated, being careful not to overmix. (3 minutes)

07

Step

Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and cinnamon sugar. Pour the remaining batter over the top, and sprinkle with more cinnamon sugar. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the chocolate chips and cinnamon sugar lightly through the batter. (5 minutes)

08

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. (60 minutes)

09

Step

Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely. (15 minutes)

For an extra burst of flavor, try adding a tablespoon of orange zest to the batter.
Be careful not to overmix the batter after adding the flour, as this can result in a tough cake.
Ensure the butter is properly softened to achieve a smooth and creamy batter.
If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to a cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
