For a more intense peppermint flavor, add an extra 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract. If you don't have candy canes, peppermint candies can be used as a substitute. Store leftover fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. To easily crush candy canes, place them in a zip-top bag and use a rolling pin or meat mallet to crush them into small pieces.
