For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder. Toast the hazelnuts lightly before grinding to enhance their nutty aroma. Store the cooled bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
A cherished Christmas tradition, these hazelnut-infused chocolate bars, crowned with a tangy lemon icing, evoke memories of festive gatherings and the comforting aroma of holiday baking. A delightful treat that disappears as quickly as it's made!
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking sheet or line with parchment paper. (5 minutes)
In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and softened butter using an electric mixer until light and fluffy. (5 minutes)
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until just combined. (2 minutes)
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, cinnamon, baking powder, and cloves. (3 minutes)
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. (5 minutes)
Stir in the ground hazelnuts until evenly distributed throughout the dough. (2 minutes)
Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet. Use a rolling pin or your hands to evenly spread the dough to fill the pan. (5 minutes)
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is slightly firm. (20 minutes)
While still warm, cut the cookie sheet into squares or bars. (5 minutes)
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and lemon juice until smooth. (2 minutes)
Brush the lemon icing evenly over the warm bars. Allow the icing to set before serving. (15 minutes)
For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder. Toast the hazelnuts lightly before grinding to enhance their nutty aroma. Store the cooled bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
