Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat your outdoor grill to medium heat (approximately 350°F or 175°C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

Thoroughly wash and dry the russet potatoes. Using a fork, pierce each potato multiple times to allow steam to escape during grilling. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Lightly rub each potato with olive oil. Season generously with kosher salt. (2 minutes)

04

Step

Individually wrap each potato tightly in aluminum foil, ensuring the seams are well-sealed to trap heat and moisture. (3 minutes)

05

Step

Place the wrapped potatoes directly on the grill grates. Close the grill lid and cook for approximately 1 hour, turning the potatoes every 15 minutes to ensure even cooking and prevent burning. (60 minutes)

06

Step

After 1 hour, carefully check for doneness by piercing a potato with a fork through the foil. If the fork easily slides in with little resistance, the potatoes are done. If not, continue grilling for another 10-15 minutes, checking again for doneness. (10 minutes)

07

Step

Remove the potatoes from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before carefully unwrapping. Cut open, fluff the insides with a fork, and top with your favorite toppings. (5 minutes)

For extra smoky flavor, add a handful of wood chips (such as hickory or mesquite) to your grill's smoker box or in a foil pouch directly on the coals.
Don't overcrowd the grill. Ensure there's enough space around the potatoes for proper heat circulation.
Heavy-duty foil is recommended to prevent tearing during grilling. If using standard foil, double wrap the potatoes.
If you don't have aluminum foil, you can grill directly on the grill but you will need to check them more frequently and they may burn.
