Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

In a shallow casserole dish, combine the ranch-style beans and refried beans. Sprinkle with the taco seasoning mix and stir until well combined. Spread the mixture evenly across the bottom of the dish. (5 minutes)

02

Step
5 mins

In a separate small bowl, whisk together the sour cream and dry onion soup mix until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly over the bean layer. Top with salsa, spreading it in an even layer. (5 minutes)

03

Step
30 mins

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours, to allow the bean layer to firm up. (30 minutes)

04

Step
5 mins

Just before serving, layer the torn iceberg lettuce over the salsa. Sprinkle the crushed tortilla chips evenly over the lettuce, followed by the shredded Cheddar cheese. Serve immediately. (5 minutes)

For a spicier kick, use a hot salsa or add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the bean mixture.
Feel free to substitute the iceberg lettuce with romaine or your favorite leafy green.
To prevent the tortilla chips from getting soggy, add them just before serving.
This dip can be assembled ahead of time, but wait to add the lettuce, tortilla chips, and cheese until just before serving to maintain their crispness.

Next time, I'll try using different types of cheese, like Monterey Jack or pepper jack, for a different flavor profile.
