Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, softened butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until well combined and crumbly. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Carefully core each apple, leaving the bottom intact to create a well. Stuff each apple with the brown sugar mixture, filling almost to the top. Distribute blueberries over the filling, then top with a final layer of the brown sugar mixture. Gently press raisins into the mixture. (15 minutes)

04

Step

Pour enough water into a shallow baking dish to cover the bottom. Add walnuts, spiced rum, vanilla extract, and cornstarch to the water. Stir well to combine. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Arrange the stuffed apples in the water mixture. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil. (2 minutes)

06

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking until the sugar begins to caramelize, the water mixture thickens into a luscious sauce, and the apples are tender, approximately 15 minutes more. (35 minutes)

07

Step

Stir the spiced water mixture and spoon it generously over the baked apples. Allow the apples to cool for about 5 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and the apples to become even more tender. (5 minutes)

For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.
Feel free to substitute pecans or almonds for the walnuts.
A splash of lemon juice in the water mixture will enhance the tartness of the apples.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of crème fraîche, or Greek yogurt for a delightful contrast of temperatures and textures.
