Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Base: In a large slow cooker (6-quart or larger), layer the sliced apples, sauerkraut (with juice), and smoked sausages. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Prepare the Sauce: In a separate large bowl, whisk together the cola, apple juice, and brown sugar until the sugar is mostly dissolved. (3 minutes)

03

Step

Combine and Cook: Pour the cola mixture over the apple and sausage mixture in the slow cooker. Stir gently to ensure all ingredients are coated. (2 minutes)

04

Step

Slow Cook: Cover and cook on High for 2 hours, then reduce heat to Low and cook for an additional 6 to 8 hours, or until the apples are tender and the sausages are heated through. (See notes for oven instructions). (8 hours)

05

Step

Serve: Serve hot, directly from the slow cooker or transfer to a serving dish. Enjoy!

For a deeper flavor, try browning the sausages in a skillet before adding them to the slow cooker.
If you prefer a less sweet dish, start with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and add more to taste.
To bake in the oven, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Combine all ingredients in a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot. Cover and bake for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until apples are tender.
Adding a splash of apple cider vinegar can enhance the tanginess.
This dish pairs well with mashed potatoes, crusty bread, or a simple side salad.

I found that using diet cola worked just as well and cut down on the sweetness a bit.

My family loved this! I added a pinch of cinnamon for extra warmth. Will make again!
