Follow The Directions

01

Step

Soak lentils in a bowl covered with cold water for at least 4 hours. (4+ hours)

02

Step

Drain the soaked lentils and transfer them to a large pot. Add 5 cups of water and the beef bouillon cube. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes. (20 min)

03

Step

Add the rice to the pot and continue to simmer until both the rice and lentils are tender, approximately 15 to 20 minutes. (20 min)

04

Step

While the lentils and rice are simmering, heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, red bell pepper, minced garlic, cumin, salt, and pepper. Sauté until the onion is golden brown and tender, about 5 to 7 minutes. (7 min)

05

Step

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and crumbly, about 7 to 9 minutes. (9 min)

06

Step

Stir in the ground paprika and cook for 1 more minute to release its flavor. (1 min)

07

Step

Transfer the meat mixture to the pot with the lentils and rice. Simmer over low heat for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. (10 min)

For a richer flavor, use beef broth instead of water and a bouillon cube.
Adjust the amount of water to achieve your desired consistency. If you prefer a thicker dish, reduce the water by 1/2 to 1 cup.
Feel free to add other vegetables, such as carrots, celery, or diced tomatoes, to the skillet along with the onion and bell pepper.
