Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Parboil the Sausage (5 minutes): In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the Italian sausage links and cook until partially cooked. Remove from water and slice into rounds.

02

Step
1 hrs 10 mins

Build the Sauce (1 hour 10 minutes): Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the turkey is browned and crumbly, and the onion is softened. Drain any excess grease. Stir in the sliced sausage, tomato sauce, chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, dried oregano, dried basil, and dried parsley. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for at least 1 hour, or until the flavors have melded together beautifully and the sausage is fully cooked.

03

Step
12 mins

Cook the Spaghetti (12 minutes): While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package directions, until al dente. Drain well.

04

Step
3 mins

Combine and Serve: Transfer the cooked spaghetti to a large serving bowl. Pour the sauce over the spaghetti and toss to coat evenly. Serve immediately.

For a deeper flavor, brown the sausage in the skillet before parboiling.
Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for a little heat.
Fresh herbs, such as basil and oregano, can be substituted for dried herbs for an even more vibrant flavor. Use about 3 times the amount of fresh herbs as dried.
A splash of red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar added towards the end of the simmering time can brighten the sauce.
Serve with a generous grating of Parmesan cheese and a side of garlic bread.
