For a more intense anise flavor, add an additional 1/4 teaspoon of anise extract to the dough. Make sure your butter and eggs are at room temperature for a smoother dough. The dough can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Bring to room temperature before rolling and baking. Store the finished cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
