Follow The Directions

01

Step
2 mins

Rinse the black beans in a colander and remove any debris. (2 minutes)

02

Step
3 mins

Pour the rinsed beans into the Instant Pot. Add water, salt, cumin, chili powder, and bay leaf (if using). (3 minutes)

03

Step
1 mins

Close and lock the lid of the Instant Pot. Ensure the pressure release valve is set to the 'Sealing' position. (1 minute)

04

Step
15 mins

Select the 'Manual' or 'Pressure Cook' setting on high pressure. Set the timer for 21 minutes. The Instant Pot will take approximately 10-15 minutes to come to pressure. (15 minutes)

05

Step
20 mins

Once the cooking cycle is complete, allow the pressure to release naturally for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, carefully release any remaining pressure manually by moving the pressure release valve to the 'Venting' position. (2 minutes)

06

Step
5 mins

Once all the pressure has been released and the float valve has dropped, carefully unlock and remove the lid. (1 minute)

07

Step
5 mins

Drain the cooked black beans in a colander. They are now ready to use in your favorite recipes! (2 minutes)

For a richer flavor, sauté a diced onion and a clove of garlic in the Instant Pot before adding the beans and water.
If you prefer softer beans, increase the cooking time by a few minutes.
Soaking the beans is not necessary, but if you choose to soak them for a shorter cooking time, reduce the cooking time to 15 minutes.
These black beans are delicious in tacos, burritos, soups, salads, and as a side dish.
Store leftover cooked black beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
