For an extra layer of flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg to the cheese sauce. Panko bread crumbs provide a superior crunch compared to regular bread crumbs. If you don't have fresh parsley, dried parsley can be substituted, but use half the amount. Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese! Gruyere, Monterey Jack, or even a smoked Gouda would be delicious additions. The hot sauce adds a little complexity, don't be afraid to use more if you like some heat.
