Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a pint-sized resealable plastic bag, gently combine the milk, half-and-half, sugar, and vanilla extract. Seal the bag tightly, ensuring as much air is removed as possible. (2 minutes)

02

Step

In a gallon-sized resealable plastic bag, add the ice cubes and rock salt. Place the sealed pint-sized bag inside the gallon bag and seal it tightly. (3 minutes)

03

Step

Gently rock the gallon bag back and forth, or roll it on a table, for about 10-15 minutes. Avoid shaking vigorously, as this could cause the bag to break. Continue until the mixture in the smaller bag has thickened into ice cream. (15 minutes)

04

Step

Carefully remove the pint-sized bag from the gallon bag. Wipe the top of the pint-sized bag with a clean cloth to remove any salt residue before opening. (2 minutes)

For a richer flavor, use heavy cream instead of half-and-half.
If you don't have rock salt, coarse sea salt can be used as a substitute, but the ice cream may take a little longer to freeze.
Get creative with flavors! Add a tablespoon of chocolate syrup, a handful of crushed cookies, or a sprinkle of cinnamon to the milk mixture before sealing.
The ice cream is best enjoyed immediately, as it will melt quickly.

I had a little salt get into my ice cream, so be extra careful when wiping the bag.
