Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Grill: Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Combine Burger Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine half of the chopped cilantro with the ground beef, chopped chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, mushrooms, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently but thoroughly. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Form Patties: Form the beef mixture into 4 evenly sized patties. Ensure they are slightly wider than the onion rolls to account for shrinkage during cooking. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Prepare Avocado Salsa: In a separate bowl, gently toss the remaining cilantro with the diced avocado, onion, tomato, jalapeno peppers, and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Be careful not to mash the avocado. (10 minutes)

05

Step

Grill Burgers: Grill the burgers on the preheated grill until browned and cooked to your desired level of doneness, about 5-7 minutes per side for medium. (10-14 minutes)

06

Step

Assemble Burgers: Serve the grilled burgers on the onion rolls, generously topped with the fresh avocado salsa. (2 minutes)

For a spicier kick, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to the burger mixture or using a hotter variety of chili pepper in the salsa.
To prevent the burgers from sticking to the grill, make sure the grate is well-oiled and avoid moving the patties too soon after placing them on the grill.
The avocado salsa is best when made fresh. If preparing ahead of time, add the lime juice just before serving to prevent browning.
If you don't have a grill, you can cook the burgers in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add a tablespoon of oil to the skillet before cooking.

Be careful not to overcook the burgers. They are best when still a little juicy.

I used poblano peppers instead of jalapenos for a milder flavor.
