Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. (2 minutes)

02

Step

Season the chicken breasts on both sides with pepper. Place the chicken in the skillet and cook for 6 to 7 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). The juices should run clear when pierced with a fork. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside. (12-14 minutes)

03

Step

Add the sliced red onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in the parsley, applesauce, white wine, and Dijon mustard. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has slightly thickened. (8 minutes)

04

Step

Return the chicken to the skillet and nestle it into the sauce. Add the toasted walnuts. Allow the chicken to warm through in the sauce, about 3 to 5 minutes. (3-5 minutes)

05

Step

Serve immediately, spooning the sauce and walnuts over the chicken. Garnish with additional parsley, if desired.

For a richer flavor, use bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs. Increase the cooking time accordingly.
Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, or until fragrant, for enhanced flavor and texture.
Adjust the amount of mustard to your liking. For a milder sauce, use a sweet or mild mustard. For a spicier sauce, use a grainy or hot mustard.
Serve with a side of rice, mashed potatoes, or crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
