Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

In a Dutch oven or large, heavy-bottomed pot, place the beef chuck roast and scatter the chopped onions over the top. Pour in the diced tomatoes with their juices, vinegar, water, sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Season generously with salt and pepper. (5 minutes)

02

Step
3 hrs

Cover the pot, leaving the lid slightly ajar, and cook over medium heat for 3 hours, or until the beef is incredibly tender and easily pulls apart. (3 hours)

03

Step
10 mins

Remove the beef from the pot and shred it using two forks. Discard any bones, excess fat, or gristle. (10 minutes)

04

Step
20 mins

Return the shredded beef to the sauce in the pot. Cook over medium heat, uncovered, until the liquid has reduced and thickened slightly, about 15 to 20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. (20 minutes)

For a richer flavor, consider browning the beef chuck roast on all sides before adding the remaining ingredients.
Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar to your liking. Some prefer a slightly tangier barbecue, while others enjoy a sweeter profile.
Serve the shredded beef on toasted buns with your favorite toppings, such as coleslaw, pickles, or a drizzle of extra barbecue sauce.
